Characteristics and performance of different spark plugs

The spark plug is a very critical part of the internal combustion engine, without the spark plug, the vehicle will not start. Because the health of spark plugs is directly related to engine performance, bad spark plugs can often lead to serious problems, including longer cold start times and possible sudden stalling while the vehicle is in motion. We usually distinguish spark plugs by different materials of key parts.
●Copper spark plugs have a copper core inside that is coated with a nickel alloy. Copper spark plugs are one of the best performing options on the market at a very affordable price. This is because copper is a good conductor of electricity, so it allows the spark plug to spark more consistently. Copper core metal is a good conductor of electricity and can transfer heat quickly. On the other hand, nickel alloy metals are softer than metals such as iridium, platinum and silver. For these reasons, copper spark plugs will wear out faster than other spark plugs after exposure to the heat and high pressure of the combustion chamber.
●Iridium spark plugs last much longer than copper spark plugs. This is because iridium is a very durable but poorly conductive material. This means that although its spark is weaker than that of a copper spark plug, it will last longer. However, this durability comes at a price, as Iridium spark plugs cost more but need to be replaced less frequently. Overall, this is a balanced choice if you want a spark plug that performs well but at the same time doesn't need to be replaced very often.
●Platinum spark plugs are similar in design to copper spark plugs except they end with platinum tips instead of nickel alloy tips. Platinum spark plugs are divided into single platinum spark plugs and double platinum spark plugs, there is only one difference between the two, single platinum spark plugs are only coated with platinum on the center electrode, while double platinum spark plugs are coated with platinum on both the center electrode and the ground electrode . Due to this feature, the double platinum spark plugs are more durable and have improved performance than similar products. Due to the platinum coating, these spark plugs will last longer than copper and iridium based spark plugs, but spark generation performance will be significantly reduced. This is because platinum is not a very good conductor of electricity compared to copper or iridium. These types of spark plugs also have the disadvantage of being expensive. That said, these are great for those who want a long-lasting spark plug and don't mind a lower performance output.
●Silver spark plugs are relatively rare spark plugs on the market, with silver-plated electrode tips. Since silver is less durable, they don't last as long as their platinum or iridium counterparts, but they do have the advantage of handling heat conductivity better. Since these types of spark plugs are uncommon, you will rarely see them used in everyday vehicles, some silver plugs are used in race cars. Silver spark plugs fall between copper and iridium in terms of performance and pricing.
