The manufacturing process of iridium spark plug involves
Several steps to ensuretheir quality and functionality. It begins with the selection of suitable materials, such as the metal shell,insulator，and electrodes. These materials are carefully chosen based on their conductivity, heat resistance,and durability.
Once the materials are selected,the next step is to shape the metal shell. This is usually done through a process called extrusion, where a metal rod is forced through a die to create the desired shape. The extruded shell is then cut into the appropriate length and threaded to allow for easy installation.
After the shell is formed,the insulator is inserted into it. The insulator is typically made of ceramic or glass, as these materials have excellent electrical.
Insulation properties. The insulator is carefully placed inside the shell to ensure a proper fit and alignment.
The electrodes are made of a conductive material，such as copper or platinum, and are responsible for creating the spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the engine. The electrodes are welded or brazed to the shell and insulated from each other to prevent electrical short circuits.
Once the electrodes are attached,the spark plug undergoes a series of tests to ensure its functionality.
These tests include checking the resistance,heat range, and spark gap of the plug. Any defective iridium spark plug are discarded,while thosethat pass the tests are cleaned,packaged, and ready for distribution.
