Not the Plug’s Fault: Hidden Causes of Spark Plug Failure

Cases where a spark plug "breaks off" and gets stuck in the cylinder are not uncommon. At first glance, the electrode and ceramic body often show signs of melting or burning, leading many to assume it's a product quality issue. However, such problems are often not caused by a "defective product," but rather by human error. In other words, when this happens, the spark plug itself is quite "wronged." Based on years of technical research and feedback, BANQIU SPARK PLUG has found that improper installation is one of the main causes of spark plug failure. Many technicians do not use a proper torque wrench and rely only on experience when tightening, leading to plugs being installed either too tightly or too loosely. This results in uneven heat transfer at the ignition end, which can cause melting or burning. The correct practice is to use professional tools and follow standard torque specifications. For conical (gasketless) spark plugs, the recommended torque is 10–20 N·m.

Another major reason for spark plug damage is incorrect fuel use. Modern high-compression and turbocharged engines require fuel with strong anti-knock properties. If a lower-octane fuel is used, the mixture may ignite prematurely under high pressure and temperature before the spark occurs, a phenomenon known as pre-ignition. This uncontrolled combustion generates extreme heat and pressure far beyond the plug's design limits, often leading to melted electrodes or cracked ceramics. In such cases, the spark plug is not "low quality"-it's simply taking the blame for poor fuel.

A third common issue is incorrect heat range matching. For example, using a low-heat-range spark plug in a turbocharged engine that requires fast heat dissipation will cause the electrode temperature to rise excessively, turning it into a small "furnace." This can lead to severe electrode damage or even pre-ignition, with consequences similar to those caused by poor fuel.

In fact, most of the "grievances" suffered by spark plugs stem from improper installation, incorrect fuel use, or mismatched heat ranges. BANQIU SPARK PLUG is committed to precision manufacturing and a rigorous inspection system. Every plug is fully tested-not sampled-to ensure reliable performance under extreme conditions. We also remind users to always install spark plugs using a torque wrench according to proper specifications; to switch to the correct fuel grade immediately if the wrong fuel is used; and to select the proper spark plug model that matches the vehicle's required heat range and gap parameters.

BANQIU SPARK PLUG not only focuses on product quality but also on professional standards and technical excellence. We understand that even the best spark plug must be installed and used correctly. Only through professional installation and quality fuel can the full performance of BANQIU spark plugs be unleashed-to ignite every journey with passion and power.
