Spark Plugs Are Classified According To Electrode Classification. How To Refit Them?

The engine is the "heart" of the car, and the spark plug is the "booster" of the engine. Without the spark plug, the engine cannot start and continue to work. The performance of the vehicle can be improved by modifying the spark plug. The spark plug is an important component of the ignition system. The ignition of the spark plug is required for every work done by the engine. Its structure and performance directly affect the working performance of the engine.
Spark plugs can be divided into three grades according to the metal used in the electrode. Common nickel alloy spark plugs can be divided into single and multistage spark plugs. The multistage spark plugs can only be ignited step by step, which can only prolong the life of the spark plugs, but can not improve the ignition intensity. It is recommended to replace them after 15000~20000 km; Platinum spark plugs are recommended to be replaced at 60000~90000 km; Iridium spark plugs are recommended to be replaced at 40000~60000 km.
How to upgrade spark plugs?
1. Replacing spark plugs with noble metal electrode materials means replacing ordinary spark plugs with platinum or iridium spark plugs. The electrode materials of ordinary spark plugs are usually made of copper-nickel alloy, and high-quality spark plugs are made of platinum or iridium. Platinum and iridium have high melting point, high temperature and high pressure resistance and good quality, so platinum and iridium spark plugs can emit stronger and more stable sparks. In terms of the price of spark plugs, platinum and iridium metal electrode spark plugs are 2-3 times more expensive than ordinary nickel alloy spark plugs, and the mileage to travel is 2-3 times more than ordinary spark plugs. Therefore, the cost is the same, and the time for frequent replacement of spark plugs is also saved. However, under the driving conditions of high engine speed, vehicles using platinum and iridium spark plugs can play a stronger dynamic performance, and its advantages of high temperature stability, It can also make the engine quieter and work more smoothly.
2. Change to multipole spark plug. From the form of electrode, the spark plug includes no pole, single pole, double pole, three pole, four pole, etc. The spark plug with more than two poles is called multipole spark plug. Most of the original spark plugs are single-pole spark plugs. When the engine is running at low speed, the air flow rate in the cylinder is slow, and the air between the electrodes is relatively easy to be broken down. The larger arc generated is suitable for the low torque output of the engine. When the engine is running at high speed, the air flow rate in the cylinder becomes faster, and the probability of the arc generated by the broken air will be reduced. This probability of failure to produce arc is called misfire rate. The larger the gap, the higher the misfire rate, thus affecting the high-speed power output of the engine. On the contrary, the smaller the electrode gap, the lower the misfire rate at high speed, and the lower the ignition energy at low speed. The multipole spark plug increases the relative contact area between the electrodes through the increase of the side electrodes, thus reducing the gap between the central electrode and the measuring electrode, so that the engine needs low energy for low speed ignition, low misfire rate for high speed ignition, and more stable ignition. This is the benefit of replacing multipole spark plugs.
3. The heat value of the spark plug with suitable heat value can be divided into cold type and hot type. The insulator of the cold type spark plug is short. The advantage of the cold type spark plug is that the distance of heat transfer to the cooling system is short, which makes the ignition delay, and is suitable for high speed or high performance engines; The external insulator of the thermal spark plug is long, with the advantage of low price. The disadvantage is that the distance of heat transfer to the cooling system is long, and the heat transfer efficiency will be poor, which makes the heat generated by the spark plug difficult to dissipate. It is suitable for engines with low performance or low compression ratio.
