Spark plug gap adjustment tips

Adjusting the spark plug gap is an important part of ensuring the normal operation of the engine. Here are some tips on adjusting the spark plug gap:

1. Determine the standard gap: Different models and engine types may have different requirements for the spark plug gap. Therefore, before adjusting the gap, it is best to consult the vehicle manual or consult a professional to determine the standard gap of the spark plug. Generally speaking, the gap of the spark plug is usually between 0.6-1.2 mm.

2. Use the right tools: Adjusting the spark plug gap usually requires the use of a feeler gauge (also called a gap gauge) and a flat-head screwdriver. A feeler gauge is a thin piece with a scale that is used to measure the gap between the spark plug electrodes. A flat-head screwdriver is used to fine-tune the gap.

3. Check and clean the spark plug: Before adjusting the gap, you should check the condition of the spark plug. If there is carbon deposits or dirt on the spark plug, you should clean it first. You can use a wire brush or cleaner to remove carbon deposits and dirt.

4. Adjust the gap: If the spark plug gap is too large, you can use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the side electrode to reduce the gap. If the gap is too small, you can tap the side electrode gently to increase the gap. Pay attention to the strength when adjusting to avoid damaging the electrode.

5. Use a feeler gauge to confirm the gap: After adjusting the gap, use a feeler gauge to confirm whether the gap meets the standard. Insert the feeler gauge between the spark plug electrodes and gently pull the feeler gauge to feel its tightness. If the feeler gauge can be inserted and pulled out smoothly and the tightness is moderate, it means that the gap is properly adjusted.

6. Regular inspection and adjustment: The spark plug gap will change with the increase of usage time, so it is recommended to check and adjust the spark plug gap regularly. Generally speaking, it is a more appropriate frequency to check once every 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers.

With the above tips, the spark plug gap can be effectively adjusted to ensure that the engine can run normally and efficiently.
